About

This extraordinary piece may well have been from the famous hiring collection that Eugene Joseff made for Hollywood films. A strikingly similar necklace was worn by Barbara Stanwyck in 'The Mad Miss Manton' in 1938. Written about in gossip columns of the day, the movie caused quite a stir.
‘Eugene Joseff created ‘Joseff of Hollywood’ jewellery for the movies from 1935 until his death in 1948. His wife Joan Castle carried on his work thereafter. They had a huge collection of original pieces that they hired for films and also used as inspiration for their extremely popular retail line, which simplified the styles of the originals but retained the Russian gilding which Joseff developed allowing cameras to film the jewels without glare, and allowing each wearer a special piece of that Hollywood glamour and celebrity seen in the original films.

The original is illustrated in 'Jewellery of the Stars' by Joanne Dubbs Ball [p32]
